Who do you write like? Find out here! Then post the results in the comments section.
Supposedly I write like Vladimir Nabokov. I don’t see how my style is similar to Nabokov’s but it’s still pretty amusing. What’s even more interesting is that when I put in a text block from something much older that I’d written I got a comparison to Margaret Atwood. Who knows who I’ll be writing like in another couple of years?
Now that you know who you write like, it’s time to find out how full of crap you are. Or at least how full of crap your writing is. Check out this fun site and see how much text is just filling up space. I have no idea what criteria the site uses to measure BS but it’s a neat diversion and something to get you thinking about editing and how much pruning you can do. Remember, economy of words is important and every word must do something. Depending on what sections of my writing I select, I’ve gotten from .06 to .1 and sometimes beyond. Regardless of what this program says, I already know that I’ll have much to cut out once I go back for the second draft. So give this program a try and see what it tells you. You can check it out here
Just remember not to take the results of either of these things too seriously. It’s all in good fun.
